The Games We’re Watching: PlayStation 5 in 2026

At Basket, we love gaming. And with 2026 shaping up to be another extraordinary year for the medium, we have selected five titles that caught our attention. From colourful platforming and samurai action to dark fantasy, archaeological adventure and military warfare, this is a selection designed to offer something for almost every kind of player.
Rayman Legends: Retold — A Classic Returns
We begin with a title that needs little introduction: Rayman Legends: Retold, Ubisoft's revival of one of the most beloved platformers of the PlayStation era.
Originally released in 2013, Rayman Legends became renowned for its beautiful hand-drawn art, inventive level design, precise controls and wonderfully playful sense of humour. Retold brings that experience to a new generation, reimagining the classic for modern hardware.
From what we have seen so far, it looks fabulous. The colourful worlds and fluid animation remain central to the experience, making this a game that should appeal not only to longtime Rayman fans but also to younger players discovering the character for the first time.
Scheduled for December 3, 2026, Rayman Legends: Retold is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Windows and Nintendo Switch 2.
Our verdict so far: A beautifully refreshed platforming classic that could provide some much-needed pure fun.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword — Capcom Goes Back to the Samurai
For something considerably darker, we turn to Capcom, the legendary studio behind Street Fighter, Resident Evil and countless other classics.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword marks the return of one of Capcom's most distinctive franchises. It is the first mainline Onimusha game since Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams in 2006, making this comeback particularly significant for longtime fans.
The game combines intense sword combat with supernatural elements and a distinctly Japanese historical atmosphere. It is aimed at a more mature audience, and everything we have seen suggests that Capcom is taking the return seriously.
Released on September 4, 2026, the game is available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Windows and Nintendo Switch 2.
The response has been extremely strong, with the game reportedly selling one million copies on its launch day.
Our verdict: Twenty years after the last mainline adventure, Onimusha is back — and it appears to have returned with its sword firmly sharpened.
The Blood of Dawnwalker — A Dark Fantasy Worth playing
Our selection then takes us into considerably darker territory with The Blood of Dawnwalker, one of the most intriguing action RPGs of this generation.
Developed by Rebel Wolves and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, the game transports players to the mid-14th century, to Vale Sangora, a fictional valley in the Carpathian Mountains controlled by vampires.
You play as Coen, a young man who becomes a Dawnwalker — human during the day and vampire at night. He has just 30 in-game days to save his family from the vampire lord Brencis.
What makes the concept particularly interesting is the game's approach to time and storytelling. There is no traditional linear main quest. Time advances when players undertake quests or perform actions that affect the story, meaning the player's decisions can shape how events unfold.
That premise alone makes The Blood of Dawnwalker particularly fascinating. Add its striking visual presentation and strong early reception, and this is certainly a game worth keeping on your radar.
Our verdict: Dark, atmospheric and ambitious — an RPG with a fascinating idea at its centre.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis — Lara Croft Returns
Few characters in gaming history are as recognisable as Lara Croft. Now, the legendary adventurer is preparing for another major return in Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis.
Developed by Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog, the game is a second remake of the original Tomb Raider from 1996. It promises the familiar combination of exploration, puzzle-solving and action, while expanding the story surrounding Lara's search for a powerful artefact connected to the lost civilisation of Atlantis.
The project was first publicly referenced in 2022 before being formally revealed at The Game Awards in 2025, alongside the announcement of Tomb Raider: Catalyst, scheduled for 2028.
With Lara Croft once again at the centre of a major archaeological adventure, expectations will naturally be high.
Legacy of Atlantis is currently expected to launch worldwide on February 12, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Windows and Nintendo Switch 2.
Our verdict: Lara Croft, Atlantis and a legendary archaeological mystery. For Tomb Raider fans, that combination should be difficult to resist.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 — For Mature Audiences
We finish our selection with a game that is very different from the colourful world of Rayman — Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.
Developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision, the game continues the rebooted Modern Warfare storyline and represents the fourth entry in that sub-series, following Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III from 2023.
As expected from the franchise, this is a red-band title intended for mature audiences, and parental guidance is recommended for younger players.
The game is scheduled for release on October 23, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Windows and Nintendo Switch 2.
While Call of Duty needs little introduction, every new instalment carries enormous expectations. Players will be looking for the combination of cinematic storytelling, intense combat and multiplayer action that has made the series one of gaming's biggest names.
Our verdict: Not a game for everyone — but for adult players looking for a major blockbuster shooter, Modern Warfare 4 is certainly one to watch.
Five Games, Five Very Different Experiences
What we like about this selection is precisely how different these games are. Rayman Legends: Retold represents colourful, accessible platforming. Onimusha brings samurai combat and supernatural horror. The Blood of Dawnwalker offers dark fantasy and role-playing. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis returns to one of gaming's most famous adventurers, while Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 delivers the blockbuster military-shooter experience.
And that is what makes gaming so fascinating: there is no single definition of what a great game should be.
At Basket, we'll be watching all five closely.
