Derrière la lumière, the latest book by French YouTuber and fitness personality Tibo InShape, offers precisely that kind of perspective.

Born Thibaud Delapart on 19 January 1992, Tibo InShape built his career from remarkably modest beginnings. His story started with workout videos filmed in his bedroom, centred on his passion for bodybuilding and fitness. What began as a personal project gradually became a major digital career, followed by the creation of a sports-nutrition business and a much broader media presence.
By June 2024, Tibo InShape had surpassed 26.8 million YouTube subscribers and accumulated more than 20.9 billion views, making him one of the most prominent French-speaking creators on the platform. His content has also evolved considerably. While bodybuilding remains central to his identity, he has expanded into interviews, social issues, and a series exploring professions that many people rarely encounter.

Behind the fitness influencer
What makes the book particularly interesting is that it does not focus exclusively on muscles, training routines, or the conventional story of sporting success. Instead, Tibo InShape uses his own career to examine the person behind the public image.

Our verdict
Derrière la lumière is an accessible and uplifting sports biography, particularly suited to readers interested in bodybuilding, fitness, social media, and the entrepreneurial side of modern sport.
Its greatest strength is perhaps its accessibility. Tibo InShape writes about an extraordinary level of success while returning to very ordinary beginnings: a young man, a camera, a bedroom, and a passion for training.
The book is currently available in French, so readers who are not comfortable with the language may find it more difficult to read directly. Nevertheless, English-language summaries and reviews can help non-French speakers engage with the story, and translated excerpts can provide an opportunity for wider discussion during our Bookclub session.
For fans of Tibo InShape, Derrière la lumière offers a chance to look beyond the YouTube videos and discover the story behind the personality. For sports readers more generally, it provides an interesting reminder that modern sporting success can take many forms—and that sometimes the journey begins long before anyone is watching.
